Program Overview – ExCel Discovery:
The ExCel Discovery Program operates as a group living facility for youth aged 12 to 20 who are serving an Open Custody Sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. We collaborate closely with Young Offender Centers to support youth in overcoming challenges related to addiction, mental health, and social integration. Our primary goal is to facilitate a healthy reintegration into the community by promoting life skills, educational engagement, and the development of positive relationships.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a dedicated team that approaches their work from a strength-based, experiential perspective. As a support worker in a live-in group home, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the youth in our care.
Work Schedule: Awake Overnight, Sunday – Thursday 11:00pm-7:00am
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide trauma-informed support to residents in a live-in environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Complete and submit all necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Engage in crisis intervention as needed.
  • Implement safety protocols to ensure the well-being of residents, including conducting bed checks.
  • Maintain household standards, including meal preparation and cleanliness.
  • Follow health and safety procedures diligently.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and ongoing training.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Required Competencies:
  • Strong skills in child and youth care.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented with creativity and organizational skills.
  • Supportive and encouraging demeanor.
  • Able to adapt to dynamic situations.
  • Effective de-escalation techniques.
  • Open and clear communication.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice or a related Human Services field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in youth justice, child and youth care, social work, or human services is preferred.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning, strength-based practices, and trauma-informed care is advantageous.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 5 GDL is not acceptable).
  • A clean driver's abstract with no more than two minor offenses or one major offense.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last six months).
  • Child Intervention Check (completed within the last six months).
