Program Overview: ExCel Discovery
The ExCel Discovery Program is a group living facility designed for youth aged 12 to 20 who are serving an Open Custody Sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This program collaborates closely with Young Offender Centers to assist youth in addressing issues related to addiction, mental health, and social challenges. Our objective is to facilitate a healthy reintegration into the community by promoting life skills, educational engagement, and the development of positive relationships.
Role Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a dedicated team operating from a strength-based, experiential perspective. The Overnight Youth Support Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the youth in our care.
Work Schedule: Overnight shifts, Sunday to Thursday, from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to residents through a trauma-informed care lens in a residential group environment.
- Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Complete and submit all necessary documentation related to government and justice requirements in a timely manner.
- Engage in crisis intervention as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols to ensure the well-being of residents, including conducting bed checks.
- Maintain household expectations, including meal preparation, cleaning, and sanitation.
- Follow standard health and safety procedures diligently.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and additional training as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Competencies:
- Strong skills in child and youth care.
- Attention to detail.
- A collaborative team player with creativity and strong organizational abilities.
- Supportive and encouraging demeanor.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic situations.
- Proficient in de-escalation techniques.
- Open and effective communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice or a related Human Services field.
- 1-2 years of experience in youth justice, child and youth care, social work, or human services is an asset.
- New graduates are welcome to apply.
- Familiarity with experiential learning, strength-based practices, and trauma-informed care is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 5 GDL is not acceptable).
- A clean driver's abstract with no more than two minor offenses or one major offense.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last six months).
- Child Intervention Check (completed within the last six months).
