Program Overview
The ExCel Discovery Program is a group living facility designed for youth aged 12 to 20 who are serving an Open Custody Sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This program collaborates closely with Young Offender Centers to address issues related to addiction, mental health, and social challenges. Our aim is to facilitate a smooth re-integration into the community by promoting life skills, educational engagement, and healthy relationships.
Position Summary
The ideal candidate will join a dedicated team operating from a strength-based, experiential perspective. As a support worker in this live-in group home, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the youth.
Work Schedule: Awake Overnight, Sunday – Thursday 11:00pm-7:00am
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed support to residents in a live-in group environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Complete and submit all necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  • Engage in crisis intervention as needed.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed, including regular bed checks.
  • Maintain household expectations such as meal preparation and cleanliness.
  • Follow standard health and safety procedures.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • Proficient in de-escalation techniques.
  • Open and effective communication skills.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice or a related Human Services field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in youth justice, child and youth care, social work, or human services is preferred.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning, strength-based practices, and trauma-informed care.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 5 GDL not accepted).
  • A clean driver's abstract with no more than two minor offenses or one major offense.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (recent).
  • Child Intervention Check (recent).
