Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of the Central Services Branch, the Manager of Field Services is responsible for leading a dedicated team that supports the department, the Minister of Education, and various Kindergarten to Grade 12 educational authorities, including independent institutions, across a wide geographical area of the province.

In alignment with relevant legislation, regulations, and policies, the Manager of Field Services fosters innovation and enhances system efficiency; oversees and guides educational authorities, including independent and charter institutions, ensuring compliance with planning, reporting, and accountability requirements; and is accountable for maintaining adherence to standards.

The Manager of Field Services also:

  • Assists educational authorities in managing issues and promotes a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Contributes to the formulation, interpretation, and execution of education-related legislation, regulations, policies, and ministry initiatives.
  • Supervises and evaluates educational authorities, charter, and independent institutions within a broad geographic region, ensuring effective management and operations in accordance with government and ministry standards, ultimately supporting student success.
  • Directs the annual assessment and endorsement of Public, Separate, Charter, and Private (Independent) school authority Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.
  • Oversees the evaluation of charter institutions and renewal processes, making recommendations for approval to the Minister based on the Education Act and Charter Schools Regulation.
  • Manages the review of annual operating plans for Private Schools in accordance with the Private Schools Regulation and conducts monitoring activities to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Ensures that provincial educational authorities maintain compliance and accountability when challenges arise, including requiring the development of improvement plans and holding authorities accountable for adherence.
  • Collects, analyzes, and disseminates system intelligence to keep senior department officials and the Minister informed of current and emerging opportunities and challenges in the field.
