Job Overview

Reporting to the Coordinator of International Student Experience, the International Student Engagement Specialist I (ISES I) plays a crucial role in enhancing the experience of international students both on campus and in the community. This position prioritizes student satisfaction and success, serving as a liaison between various departments within Camosun College and external organizations. Handling a significant amount of confidential information, the specialist assists students from the application phase through their academic journey.
Key Responsibilities
International Student Event Coordination: Organizes and manages the planning of events and student volunteer participation for the Annual Cultural Showcase; Develops and executes activities and social gatherings tailored to the needs of international students; Oversees the orientation process for international students and facilitates relevant workshops; Leads the Peer Connections support group for international students, fostering community through volunteer-led initiatives; Researches pertinent topics and compiles the monthly International Student Newsletter; Creates awareness events on campus highlighting significant international holidays and celebrations; Collaborates with the Camosun College Student Society to enhance services and support for students; Conducts presentations on living in the region and assists students with necessary documentation; Engages with provincial government representatives regarding international student issues, including medical insurance; Refers students to appropriate support services within the college and broader community; Aids students in discovering volunteer and leadership opportunities both on and off campus.
International Student Support Services Responds to inquiries from current students regarding program prerequisites, application processes, transfer agreements, and bridging programs; Assists students with online registration, fee payments, and withdrawal requests; Provides registration information to prospective international students; Facilitates the registration of new international students in their initial semester, including schedule creation and information dissemination regarding classes, fees, and deadlines; Guides students to additional support services as necessary; Maintains comprehensive information on current and upcoming programs and courses, as well as college policies and procedures that impact the registration process; Under supervision, offers information on study, work, and graduate permits, directing students to the appropriate government resources; Prepares enrollment and completion letters for international students, adhering to government guidelines.
General Responsibilities Keeps abreast of the functions and processes of various Camosun International units and relevant software; Maintains student records, statistics, and reports using the college's integrated database system; Contributes to policy and procedure development by identifying recurring issues and recommending solutions; Proposes innovative processes to enhance student transition and support, promoting best practices; Participates in college committees as required; Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in social science, education, or international studies, combined with four years of relevant experience, including two years in a post-secondary institution's registrar or international office, and one year of experience working or living in an intercultural environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in organizing events and workshops in a multicultural setting; Familiarity with immigration policies and government procedures; Strong communication and listening skills, with an understanding of cultural differences and the ability to engage with non-native English speakers; Proven problem-solving and multitasking abilities; Excellent customer service skills; A collaborative team player with meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment; Experience with integrated student registration systems; Proficiency in MS Office suite.
