Position Overview

Reporting to the Coordinator of International Student Experience, the International Student Engagement Specialist I (ISES I) plays a crucial role in enhancing the experience of international students both on campus and in the community. This position prioritizes student satisfaction and success, serving as a vital link between various units within the college and external organizations. Handling a significant amount of confidential information, the specialist supports students from the application phase through their academic journey.

Key Responsibilities International Student Event Coordination:
  • Organizes and manages event planning and student volunteer involvement for the Annual Cultural Showcase;
  • Leads the creation and execution of activities and social events tailored to the needs of international students;
  • Oversees the international student orientation and associated workshops;
  • Facilitates the Peer Connections support group for international students, fostering community through volunteer-led initiatives;
  • Conducts research on relevant topics and compiles the monthly International Student Newsletter;
  • Creates awareness events on campus to celebrate significant international holidays;
  • Collaborates with the Student Society to enhance services and support for students;
  • Delivers presentations on living in the region and assists students with necessary documentation;
  • Engages with provincial officials regarding international student issues, including medical insurance;
  • Refers students to appropriate support services within the college and broader community;
  • Assists students in locating volunteer and leadership opportunities.

International Student Support:
  • Responds to inquiries from current students regarding program prerequisites, application processes, and transfer agreements;
  • Assists students with online registration, fee payments, and withdrawal requests;
  • Provides registration information to prospective international students;
  • Facilitates the registration process for new international students, including schedule creation and information dissemination;
  • Guides students to additional support services as needed;
  • Maintains comprehensive information on current and upcoming programs and courses, along with college policies affecting registration;
  • Under supervision, offers information on study, work, and graduate permits, directing students to official resources;
  • Prepares enrollment and completion letters for international students in accordance with government guidelines.

General Duties:
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the functions and processes of various Camosun International units and relevant software;
  • Manages student files, statistics, reports, and other records using the college's integrated database;
  • Contributes to policy and procedure development by identifying issues and recommending solutions;
  • Proposes innovative processes to enhance student transitions and experiences;
  • Participates in college committees as appropriate;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in social science, education, or international studies, along with four years of relevant experience, including two years in a post-secondary institution's registrar or international office, and one year living or working in an intercultural environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in planning multicultural events and workshops;
  • Familiarity with immigration matters and government policies;
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills, with a strong understanding of cultural differences;
  • Proven problem-solving and multitasking abilities;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Team-oriented with meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience with integrated student registration systems;
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.

Applicants must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English and be able to communicate effectively with students in one additional language.
