The Squamish Nation is composed of 23 villages and is made up of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people residing in the Greater Vancouver area, Gibson's Landing, and the Squamish River watershed. Position Overview

As a key member of the Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ Rights and Title Department, this role reports directly to the Indigenous Monitor Program Manager. The incumbent will oversee the monitoring of the FortisBC Eagle Mountain Pipeline (EGP) construction, which facilitates the transfer of natural gas from north of Coquitlam to Swiyat (the Woodfibre LNG site). The monitor will collaborate closely with the FortisBC environmental inspection team to observe construction activities, address concerns, and develop solutions. You will serve as the on-site representative for the Nation. This position may require working up to 12 hours per day. The Lead Indigenous Monitor will also coordinate the activities of Indigenous Monitors and maintain communication with the FortisBC Environmental Inspection Team. Necessary equipment, including trucks, iPads, and personal protective gear, will be provided. Please note that drug and alcohol testing will be required prior to working on-site, with random testing potentially required thereafter if incidents occur.

Qualifications
  • Self-driven, independent, and capable of thriving in a dynamic team environment.
  • Highly organized with exceptional communication (both oral and written) and time management skills, with the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with a positive, approachable demeanor and the ability to facilitate discussions to resolve challenging situations and reach consensus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including leadership, teamwork, energy, self-motivation, creativity, patience, persistence, tact, and conscientiousness.
  • Experience with standard monitoring protocols and procedures is an asset.
  • Effective time management skills and a responsible approach to duties.
  • High emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with Field Maps.
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders, including construction personnel and environmental or archaeological consultants.
  • Leadership experience in managing teams.
  • Willingness and interest in working outdoors on uneven terrain.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience and/or interest in environmental and cultural monitoring.
  • Exposure to industrial projects and knowledge of Squamish Nation land and culture.

Compensation: $41.17 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
