About the Role

Modern Niagara is seeking an experienced Indigenous Relations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in fostering and maintaining relationships with Indigenous leadership and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure alignment with local communities and Indigenous leadership
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are met
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement projects that promote Indigenous inclusion and reconciliation
  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous nations and communities, aligning with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's call to action #92
  • Ensure Modern Niagara's compliance with government procurement strategies and Indigenous relations policies
  • Participate in RFP and RFQ processes, including proposal writing for large infrastructure projects
  • Support the procurement team in incorporating Indigenous communities into the process
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align national and regional activities
  • Support and advance Modern Niagara's Truth and Reconciliation plan as co-chair of the Employee Resource Group
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience working with Indigenous communities in a liaison, advisory, or community engagement role
  • Experience in the construction industry is an asset
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field, such as Indigenous Studies or Indigenous Relations
  • Strong knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze and interpret policies, legislations, and agreements
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to the cause of the position
