Position Overview

The Head of Employee Relations and Wellness is responsible for steering and nurturing labor and employee relations throughout the organization, alongside health and wellness initiatives that promote a diverse, inclusive, and thriving workplace. This role leads teams of HR professionals specializing in Employee Relations, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Wellness, and Workplace Abilities, ensuring an equitable and engaging work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction on all labor and employee relations functions, fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace while ensuring adherence to relevant employment laws and organizational policies.
  • Collaborating with relevant offices to enhance the existing employment culture and spearheading transformative changes to workplace practices that improve equity and employee satisfaction.
  • Leading and empowering the Employee Relations Team to act as strategic HR advisors, equipping managers to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s Employee Health, Safety, Wellness, and Workplace Abilities programs.
  • Championing and executing strategic, organization-wide initiatives that enhance workplace wellbeing, aligning with the overarching strategic goals.
  • Working collaboratively as a vital member of the HR Senior Leadership Team to establish divisional priorities and allocate resources effectively to support the future workplace.
  • Executing additional responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Studies, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 9 years of progressive HR experience, including 4 years in a leadership role managing labor relations in a multi-union environment.
  • Experience in developing and implementing organization-wide policies at a senior level.
  • Strong business acumen with budget management experience.
  • Certification as a Human Resources Professional or Leader (CHRL or CHRP).
  • Training in investigation and alternative dispute resolution is an asset.
  • Experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion training is also an asset.
