Position Overview:
Mount Allison University is seeking a motivated and flexible Access Services Assistant to join the R.P. Bell Library team. Reporting to the Head of Access Services and Interlibrary Loan, this role is integral to the daily functions of the Access Services Department. The successful candidate will provide exceptional front-line service to a diverse range of users, including students, faculty, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage daily operations within the Access Services department, addressing patron inquiries related to accounts and circulation, and ensuring proper maintenance of library materials.
• Act as the primary contact for library patrons, delivering friendly and informed assistance both in-person and through digital channels.
• Utilize the Integrated Library System (ILS) to offer a variety of services, adhering to established protocols.
• Oversee the inventory of non-traditional circulating items, ensuring they are functional and accessible.
• Provide basic technical support for library technologies, including computers and copiers.
• Uphold patron confidentiality in all interactions.
• Assist in training and supervising student staff.
• Manage course reserve services, collaborating with faculty and ensuring compliance with copyright regulations.
• Accurately process financial transactions.
• Support librarians and archivists with clerical tasks.
• Perform technical duties related to cataloging library materials.
• Ensure the security and safety of library users by managing building access.
• Collect and maintain statistics on building usage.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
• A Library Technician's Diploma or a relevant degree, or a combination of education and experience in a library setting, preferably in an academic context.
• Strong commitment to customer service and the ability to engage effectively with a variety of patrons.
• Experience in digitizing materials is advantageous.
• Proficient technical skills, particularly with an Integrated Library System.
• Familiarity with library services and resources, along with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Capability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Special Employment Conditions:
• First Aid certification is preferred.

• Availability for a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
