Position Overview: The Youth Empowerment Initiative aims to engage and support young individuals facing significant employment barriers, particularly those from underrepresented communities and those with limited access to resources.

Program Objectives: This initiative will provide tailored resources, mentorship, and training to address the unique challenges faced by participants. As a Nova Scotia Works Employment Centre, Opportunity Place enhances access to high-quality, inclusive services for employers and job seekers alike.

Service Delivery: Our offerings are facilitated by skilled career practitioners and counselors, encompassing case management, career guidance, job search assistance, coaching, workshops, and employer engagement services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Executive Director or designated representative, the Project Coordinator will guide youth participants in developing employability and leadership skills through customized program content, including preparatory workshops, leadership initiatives, mentorship opportunities, and paid work experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements and oversee the comprehensive delivery of project activities.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, plans, and reports, collaborating with the Executive Director to manage any necessary changes.
  • Monitor project progress, addressing any challenges that may arise while adhering to ethical decision-making and promoting diversity.
  • Implement instructional strategies that cater to various learning styles, ensuring sensitivity to the diverse needs of participants.
  • Engage candidates through structured activities and community outreach, while providing motivational support.
  • Foster relationships with local employers and industry partners to facilitate workplace opportunities.
  • Coordinate training for employer partners to ensure participants receive adequate support in their roles.
  • Conduct in-person workshops on essential job search skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, and career development.
  • Connect participants with online training resources to enhance their employment maintenance and advancement skills.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all participant information and maintain accurate records of progress and outcomes.
  • Develop feedback mechanisms for ongoing project evaluation and prepare a service delivery package for future use.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Business, Social Work, or Adult Education.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications, including MS Office 365 and video conferencing tools.
  • Experience in project management and job development.
  • Understanding of the social, community, and economic challenges faced by youth.
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities, along with analytical and project design skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth and diverse populations.
  • Flexibility in work hours to accommodate participant needs.
