Access Services Assistant

Mount Allison University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Access Services Assistant to join our team in the R.P. Bell Library. As a key member of our library staff, you will provide exceptional customer service, maintain accurate records, and support the day-to-day operations of the Access Services Department.
Key Responsibilities- Customer Service: Provide welcoming and knowledgeable service to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public in person, online, and by phone.
- Record Maintenance: Accurately maintain patron and bibliographic records, and process library materials at all stages of the circulation workflow.
- Stacks Maintenance: Undertake stacks maintenance, including shelving and retrieving library materials.
- Course Reserves: Operate the Library's course reserve services, including receiving and processing course reserves, liaising with faculty, and ensuring compliance with Canadian copyright regulations.
- Technical Support: Provide basic troubleshooting support to users of library technologies, including computers, copiers, and scanners.
- Financial Transactions: Process financial transactions accurately and securely.
- Clerical Support: Provide clerical assistance to librarians and archivists, including data entry and record-keeping.
- Building Operations: Open and close the library building, ensuring the security and safety of library users and resources.
- Statistics: Gather and maintain building usage statistics.
- Education: Library Technician's Diploma or a University degree, or relevant combination of coursework and experience in a library, preferably in an academic environment.
- Customer Service: Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively with patrons.
- Technical Skills: Strong technical skills, including experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, including ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform bending, lifting, and other physical tasks, and to safely handle and shelve heavy items.
This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a rotating schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. The successful candidate will be required to work in inclement weather and to attend work regularly.
