Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is a 84-bed facility that caters to over 74,000 local residents and millions of visitors annually. As an acute care institution, CGMH provides essential services including emergency care, diagnostic imaging, and various inpatient units. The hospital also specializes in obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care, and surgical services, ensuring comprehensive care close to home for our community.

Immunization Requirements:

A current immunization record is necessary, including two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine series recognized by Health Canada or the World Health Organization, unless an exemption is approved under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Benefits:

This role includes 4% vacation pay and 14% pay in lieu of benefits, alongside access to the Employee & Family Assistance Program and CGMH Perkopolis discounts. CGMH supports the Health Care Providers Group Insurance Plan, offering group benefits for you and your eligible dependents.

The Opportunity:

Assist in ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities related to patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. Responsibilities include reception duties, clerical tasks, and requisitioning supplies and services from various departments.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Terminology Certification
  • At least one year of clerical and data entry experience
  • Previous experience in an emergency department is preferred
  • Familiarity with Meditech systems is advantageous
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong keyboarding and data entry skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform duties accurately
  • Commitment to confidentiality
  • Dedication to providing a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, and volunteers
  • Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal; proficiency in additional languages is a plus
  • Basic computer skills
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Ability to fulfill all essential duties of the position, including physical tasks such as moving patients
  • Proven record of excellent attendance and performance
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Capability to work independently while communicating effectively with the healthcare team

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct order entry using the Meditech Expanse system when necessary
  • Manage telephone communications related to patient care coordination
  • Arrange patient transport with transportation services
  • Organize patient charts and file care documents as needed
  • Maintain clear communication with the patient care team
  • Perform clerical tasks associated with the daily operations of the Emergency Department
  • Undertake additional clerical duties as required
