Job Description:
Are you eager to advance your nursing career by acquiring experience in an Acute Care environment? Engaging in Complex Medicine on an Acute Care unit will provide you with that opportunity. On this unit, you will care for a diverse patient population requiring both medical and surgical interventions. You will enhance your expertise by managing cases involving hypertension, diabetes with complications, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, urinary tract infections, and cellulitis with a focus on wound care.
- Total Number of Beds: 24
- Patient Demographics/Typical Conditions: diabetes, kidney failure, infections, heart failure, hypertension, and pulmonary embolism.
- Targeted Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
Responsibilities:
- Act as a resource for physicians, nursing staff, patients, and their families.
- Utilize adult learning principles to design and deliver educational sessions aimed at enhancing staff development, student proficiency, and positive patient/family outcomes.
- Exhibit foresight regarding the influence of nursing care on patient results, drawing from intuition and experience.
- Complete reports related to employee conferences, risk management, and unit administration within designated timelines.
- Provide and coordinate necessary resources within the unit to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate expertise in teaching and mentoring, facilitating the development of unit preceptors, including effective delegation and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Unit Director to conduct annual assessments of educational needs. Based on these assessments, assist in ensuring staff have opportunities to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet role expectations.
- Coordinate the clinical orientation program for new staff, students, and preceptors.
- Work with preceptors to customize unit orientation and assist departmental or unit teams in creating annual competency checklists.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. A minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least two years in the relevant specialty area. A valid, active, unencumbered Nursing license or a temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board is mandatory. Nursing certification is preferred. Completion of a formal preceptor training workshop is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be necessary in specific departments. If promoted internally or hired externally, the individual must fulfill UNE criteria requirements within nine months of promotion or hire, including completion of Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488.
