About This Role

The Workers' Compensation Claims Manager plays a pivotal role in enhancing, coordinating, and supervising the company's worker's compensation claims management initiatives. This includes overseeing the Return to Work program and managing claims for Provincial Workers Compensation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance, coordinate, and supervise the organization-wide worker's compensation claims management initiatives.
  • Administer the workers' compensation claims management program for the company.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial legislation while effectively managing claims to minimize lost-time and expenses, facilitating early and safe return-to-work strategies.
  • Oversee third-party administration of claims handling, including Return to Work and Claims Management for Provincial Workers Compensation.
  • Develop and implement return-to-work programs across all provinces, including creating training materials and conducting training sessions, while maintaining updated Physical Demands Analysis (PDAs) for all functions.
  • Collaborate with other departmental Quality, Safety, and Environmental (QSE) functions to support claims avoidance efforts.
  • Review functional abilities, physical demands analysis, and related job descriptions to ensure that return-to-work plans are effective in reducing lost time and associated costs from workplace incidents.
  • Lead workers' compensation projects aimed at continuous improvement within claims management processes.
  • Foster effective and collaborative relationships across all business units, including Human Resources and various boards.
  • Compile, maintain, and analyze internal reports and statistics (scorecards), identifying trends and proposing solutions to the business.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education - Diploma or Degree in a relevant field.
  • Bilingualism is advantageous. Role may be based in major urban centers.
  • 5+ years of experience in workers' compensation claims and return-to-work program management across different provinces.
  • Experience with provincial Workers Compensation Boards is essential.
  • Certifications such as Associate in Claims (AIC), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), Certified Disability Management Professional (COMP), or Human Resources Professional (CHRP) are beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with organizational planning and teamwork capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Power BI, with the ability to learn internal database systems and work regularly in third-party administration systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by a solid customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of multi-jurisdictional Workers Compensation legislation and Disability Management processes is important; experience with non-occupational claims is a plus.
  • Experience with return-to-work programs across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of the litigation and appeals processes related to workers' compensation claims and third-party administration procedures.
