Position Summary:

We are seeking a Buyer/Planner to manage supply availability for our Maintenance and Repair product lines. This role involves developing and analyzing demand forecasts, creating inventory strategies, and executing purchasing programs to meet customer order fulfillment and corporate inventory objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure optimal customer service while maintaining minimal inventory levels, proactively addressing potential supply chain challenges to safeguard the company's financial health.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional supply management teams and buyers on supply-related issues impacting product forecasts and customer requirements.
  • Review requisitions to implement buying strategies, ensuring timely releases from suppliers and preventing stockouts.
  • Monitor critical items on the Expedite Report to maintain appropriate inventory levels, identifying alternative actions or rescheduling delivery dates as necessary.
  • Examine Bills of Materials to guarantee adequate component inventory for product kit assembly.
  • Drive the forecasting process for multiple strategic categories, maintaining a rolling unit forecast at the SKU level.
  • Forecast product life cycles, manage consensus forecasting, and provide recommendations for inventory planning.
  • Analyze discrepancies between forecasts, inventory plans, and actual results, recommending corrective actions.
  • Maintain procurement and inventory documentation.
  • Participate in monthly demand planning meetings, offering insights based on data analysis.
  • Facilitate monthly Sales & Operations demand-review meetings.
  • Communicate relevant issues to leadership as required.
  • Evaluate supplier performance semi-annually as part of Lawson's Key Supplier Program.
  • Assess proposed supplier product-cost changes and initiate cost comparisons when necessary.
  • Support bid proposals and contract negotiations, preparing purchase orders and necessary documentation.
  • Identify root causes and corrective actions for defective or unsatisfactory goods or services.
  • Coordinate inter-company shipments of overstocked materials.
  • Assist in the financial budgeting process, aiding Accounts Payable in invoice reconciliation and payment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Logistics preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in supply chain management within a distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • APICS Certification (CPIM) or equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated success in similar Supply Chain Management roles.
  • Strong analytical abilities to leverage data for problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Extensive experience with demand-planning and ERP systems, capable of synthesizing large data sets into management reports.
  • Solid understanding of ERP system linkages in Material Management and Inventory Planning.
  • Able to manage multiple high-profile product lines independently.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to lead decision-making processes for cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Basic knowledge of Strategic Sourcing duties or projects as needed.
  • Good business acumen with familiarity in Lean or Six Sigma process improvement preferred.
  • Knowledge of fasteners, cutting tools, abrasives, electrical supplies, fluid power products, and shop-type MRO items is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
