Objective:

The Faculty Relations department is dedicated to facilitating collective negotiations, managing collective agreements, and fostering ongoing labour-management relations for academic personnel at York University, which includes 8 unionized employee groups (approximately 4,000 individuals).

Under the supervision of the Director of Faculty Relations, the Senior Labour Relations Advisor (Senior Advisor) offers strategic guidance and counsel, ensuring adherence to legal standards, to a designated group of academic administrators and managers concerning labour relations and human resource issues involving academic staff.

The Senior Advisor is also tasked with providing support and insights to the Director and Associate Director of Faculty Relations during the negotiation of collective agreements and may participate in collective bargaining activities as required.

Furthermore, the Senior Advisor is accountable for conducting thorough research, gathering data, developing analytical frameworks, preparing comprehensive reports, and maintaining documentation related to internal complaints, grievances, resolutions, and external rulings, to facilitate informed recommendations to clients and/or the Director and Associate Director of Faculty Relations.

Qualifications:

A university degree, ideally in Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Professional Experience:

Proven expertise in labour negotiations.

In-depth knowledge of collective agreement management, including case preparation, grievance presentation, and advisory roles on labour relations and employment legislation.
