The Senior Manager, Labour Relations is a key member of the CN team, responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on the administration and interpretation of Collective Agreements. This strategic role acts as a trusted advisor on grievance management and alternative dispute resolution, driving business results through effective labour relations.
Main Responsibilities- Foster and set an effective labour relations strategic direction with the assigned client base, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop labour relations professionals to improve capability, encourage best practices, and demonstrate a passion for creating a culture defined by service excellence.
- Work collaboratively to establish process standards that drive efficiency and clear accountability, ensuring seamless execution of labour relations strategies.
- Act as a strategic advisor on grievance management and alternative dispute resolution options, including mediation and arbitration, to resolve complex labour disputes.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on the administration and interpretation of various Collective Agreements, ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations.
- Develop and maintain the relationship between the union and management by using an effective consultative approach, fostering trust and cooperation.
- Use analytics to drive decision-making, research materials, and participate in negotiating agreements, ensuring business outcomes are met.
- Communicate with legal experts to achieve positive results, leveraging their expertise to inform labour relations strategies.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on labour relations procedures, labour law, legislative change, dispute resolutions, and other pertinent union issues, providing guidance and support to the team.
- Perform other related duties as required, contributing to the success of the labour relations team.
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday at the head office and satellite offices. The incumbent must be available to work some nights and weekends when necessary, and travel (20 to 25%) across Canada may be required.
RequirementsExperience- Between 8 to 10 years of experience in labour relations, with a proven track record of managing direct reports and leading labour relations teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, or related Law or Human Resources or equivalent.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is an asset.

- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
