Ideal Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Team Lead to enhance our Engineering Design Organization.

A successful candidate will possess a relentless curiosity and a passion for innovative problem-solving that drives community transformation.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the mechanical design team in Western Canada, comprising engineers and designers.
  • Collaborate with the Business Group Leader (BGL) to establish resources, systems, and processes that align with client expectations.
  • Mentor and develop team members while fostering a collaborative and engaging work environment.
  • Manage team workload and ensure timely project deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Lead the production of engineering designs, calculations, and specifications from initial concept to final design.
  • Coordinate all facets of building mechanical design, including plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff throughout project completion.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key contacts within the business group.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure quality control of design documents.
  • Ensure project designs adhere to budget and schedule constraints.
  • Implement QA/QC processes for project work.
  • Support the development of junior and intermediate staff, collaborating with CAD personnel.
  • Contribute to the standardization of GHD design practices across the region and nationally.
  • Work with project teams to deliver quality service and ensure compliance with client and company standards.
  • Conduct site inspections of existing and under-construction infrastructure.
  • Provide construction support, including reviewing submittals and addressing requests for information.
  • Assist Design Managers (DMs) in proposals by outlining the technical scope and effort required for mechanical designs.
  • Represent GHD in client meetings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • At least 10 years of experience in building mechanical design, including plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and BAS systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including ABC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, and National Plumbing Code.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.
  • Proven experience in delivering mechanical designs for large, multi-discipline projects.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring technical staff.
  • Knowledge of contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of local agency codes and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in process mechanical design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Design Build, EPC, and alternative delivery models is advantageous.
