In collaboration with a dynamic and high-achieving team, this role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including:
Leading the mechanical design team in Western Canada, comprising engineers and designers Collaborating with the Business Group Leader (BGL) to define resources, systems, and processes to meet client expectations Assisting the BGL in team development, coaching, and mentorship Fostering a collaborative atmosphere to enhance engagement, growth, and retention within your team Organizing and overseeing team workloads Ensuring timely project deliverables while managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively Supervising the production of engineering designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications from initial concept to final design Coordinating all facets of building mechanical design, including plumbing layout, HVAC, and fire protection systems for both new and retrofit projects Providing practical technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technical personnel throughout project completion Cultivating strong relationships with key contacts within the business group Conducting technical reviews and quality assurance of design documents Completing designs within budget and timeline constraints Developing and implementing quality assurance and quality control processes for project work Mentoring and developing junior and intermediate staff, while collaborating with CAD personnel Contributing to the ongoing standardization of GHD's design practices across the region and nationally Collaborating with project team members to deliver high-quality service to clients, ensuring compliance with client and company standards Conducting site inspections of existing and under-construction infrastructure Providing construction support, including reviewing submittals and responding to requests for information Assisting Design Managers (DMs) on proposals by outlining the technical scope and effort required for mechanical designs Representing GHD in client meetings as necessaryWhat you will bring to the team:
A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering Licensed Professional Engineer status A minimum of 10 years of experience in building mechanical design, including plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and BAS systems Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ABC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, and the National Plumbing Code Proficient in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP Proven experience in delivering mechanical designs for large, multi-discipline projects Experience in managing teams and mentoring technical staff Knowledge of contract administration In-depth understanding of local agency codes and standards Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively Experience in managing multiple tasks while maintaining meticulous attention to detail Experience in process mechanical design is a plus Familiarity with Design Build, EPC, and alternative delivery models is advantageous
