Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Regional Director for Quality and Patient Safety. This leadership position is crucial within the Vancouver Acute team.

The Regional Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Quality & Patient Safety and Experience, taking charge of the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical quality and patient safety programs. This role is essential in cultivating a culture of ongoing enhancement in patient safety and quality across the organization and its clinical sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing a strategic framework and organizational policies aligned with the Ministry of Health's directives and Accreditation Canada’s Required Organizational Practices.
  • Identifying and supporting opportunities for measurable improvements in quality and patient safety through integrating partner insights into clinical policies and planning.
  • Leading a diverse team across multiple sites, driving initiatives and executing strategic programs effectively.
  • Utilizing data analytics and measurement tools to foster alignment and unity across VCH.
  • Engaging with various health sector committees and initiatives to ensure VCH's alignment with strategic directions and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibit strategic planning and leadership while managing complex situations and promoting evidence-based clinical quality.
  • Oversee the development of an organizational quality and patient safety framework that engages partners from care delivery to planning.
  • Lead the regional Quality & Patient Safety strategic portfolio and initiatives across designated areas.
  • Ensure departmental strategies align with VCH's strategic priorities and collaborate with local and national partners.
  • Coordinate the identification of meaningful organizational quality data in partnership with analytics teams.
  • Provide leadership and direction to team members, fostering a motivating environment.
  • Manage the departmental budget while adhering to fiscal constraints.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Recruit and manage staff in accordance with professional standards and obligations.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Master's Degree in a relevant health profession along with ten years of recent experience in clinical quality and patient safety within a complex healthcare environment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to navigate complex conversations focused on positive outcomes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current and future healthcare issues affecting the designated portfolio.
  • Strong decision-making skills considering the impact on service provision and client care.
  • Ability to apply project management methodologies in developing frameworks and tools.
  • Proficient in fostering relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Commitment to recognizing and supporting diversity in all engagement stages.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Expertise in quality management and improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
