Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Regional Director for Quality and Patient Safety. This pivotal position within the Vancouver Acute team is integral to enhancing clinical quality and patient safety across our healthcare facilities.

The Regional Director will report directly to the Executive Director of Quality & Patient Safety and Experience, leading the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of our quality and safety initiatives. This role is essential in cultivating a culture of ongoing improvement in patient safety and quality across the organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Formulating and executing a strategic framework and organizational policies aligned with the Ministry of Health's directives and Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Identifying and promoting opportunities for measurable enhancements in quality and patient safety through collaborative insights.
  • Leading a diverse team across multiple sites, ensuring alignment with VCH's strategic priorities.
  • Utilizing data analytics and performance measurement tools to drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Representing VCH in various health sector committees and initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

This role also emphasizes VCH's commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership and problem-solving capabilities, promoting evidence-based clinical quality.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive quality and patient safety framework, engaging partners at all levels.
  • Manage the regional Quality & Patient Safety strategic portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with local and national partners to inform and implement organizational strategies.
  • Coordinate the collection and analysis of quality data, sharing insights with leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide effective leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets, ensuring financial responsibility and adherence to fiscal constraints.
  • Encourage a positive work environment that prioritizes quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Recruit and manage staff in accordance with professional standards and organizational expectations.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A Master's Degree in a relevant health profession, complemented by ten years of recent experience in clinical quality and patient safety within a complex healthcare setting.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Exemplary leadership skills with the ability to navigate complex conversations focused on enhancing patient experiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare issues affecting the designated portfolio.
  • Strong decision-making abilities that consider the impact on service provision and patient care.
  • Expertise in quality improvement methodologies and evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in analyzing complex information and developing strategic goals.
