Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Housing Services Manager to oversee all aspects of our housing programs. This is a permanent full-time position that requires a strong background in social services, leadership, and supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, administer, and direct The Salvation Army's housing programs, providing services to men aged 19 and up.
  • Assist in developing appropriate services for clients, ensuring that information available to staff and clients is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Ensure that staff follows policies regarding clients requiring medical attention and/or medication.
  • Provide oversight to WSIB claims and other health and safety matters, including supervision of the Early and Safe Return to Work Program.
  • Implement safety procedures as necessary, ensuring that all staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately.
  • Participate in Halifax Centre of Hope's annual budget preparation, ensuring that residential programs operate within approved budget.
  • Authorize expenses in accordance with policy, budget, and funder guidelines.
  • Prepare payroll for direct reports and monitor department payroll expenditures.
Requirements
  • Completion of a University Degree in Human or Social Services.
  • A Social Work Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience, including experience in supervision, leadership, and a social services background.
  • Experience working with a diverse population, including mental health and addictions.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Supervisor/management skills and the ability to lead, coach, and motivate.

  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills, and respect authority.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a team environment; work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required, Word and Excel, etc.
