Job Title: Freedom of Information Compliance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Freedom of Information Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Privacy and Access Council of Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring our compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) in relation to access to information requests and the collection and use of personal information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Information and Privacy team in ensuring compliance with FIPPA requirements
  • Handle the intake of formal requests for information made pursuant to FIPPA, including preparing acknowledgement letters and calculating statutory timelines
  • Correspond and liaise with members of the public and staff at other public bodies to process requests
  • Consult with Law Society staff members, the Information and Privacy Officer, and other stakeholders to resolve complex records requests and protection of privacy issues
  • Advocate for best practices in managing files and materials in compliance with FIPPA
Requirements:
  • University degree in a related field or completion of a recognized paralegal program
  • Three to five years of related work experience, preferably in a government, regulatory, or legal setting
  • Experience and working knowledge of BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, relevant orders by the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner, cases, trends, and issues
