Position Overview

The Facilities Management department is dedicated to fostering a welcoming, secure, and sustainable atmosphere that enriches the Dalhousie community's experience in education, living, working, and research. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President, the Senior Director of Project Management will oversee the financial stewardship, design, construction, commissioning, and post-construction assessment of all facility-related initiatives undertaken at the university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a diverse array of resources to successfully execute all facility-related projects. This encompasses supervising external consultants, construction contractors, and managing an internal team of project managers.
  • Strategically plan, research, and implement project deliverables, including design and construction, while adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints and addressing any technical or institutional challenges that may arise.
  • Strive to meet or surpass departmental goals for continuous improvement in project delivery, reducing project turnaround times, optimizing project processes, and collaborating effectively with other university departments and external entities to ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as the departmental authority on the formatting and content of drawings, specifications, and contract documents necessary for the execution of all project work.
  • Provide counsel to the Assistant Vice President regarding financial matters, organizational structure, policies, and procedures pertinent to the projects division.

Required Qualifications

  • A university degree in Engineering or Architecture, accompanied by a minimum of ten years of experience in facilities management, demonstrating progressively responsible organizational and supervisory roles in related fields (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in managing construction projects.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity within a unionized environment.
  • Proficient in planning, prioritizing, and meeting project deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency, particularly in MS Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification
  • CEFP Certification
