Position Overview

The Facilities Management department is dedicated to creating a welcoming, secure, and sustainable atmosphere that enriches the educational, residential, professional, and research experiences of the Dalhousie community. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President, the Senior Director of Project Management oversees the financial stewardship, design, construction, commissioning, and post-project assessment of all facility-related initiatives undertaken at the university.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a diverse array of resources to successfully execute all facility-related projects. This includes supervising external consultants, construction contractors, and managing an internal team of project managers.
  • Strategically plan, research, and implement project deliverables, ensuring adherence to budgetary and scheduling constraints while effectively addressing any technical, institutional, or other project-related challenges that may arise.
  • Commit to achieving or surpassing departmental goals for continuous enhancement of project delivery, reducing project turnaround times, optimizing project processes, and collaborating with other university departments and external stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as the departmental authority on the formatting and content of drawings, specifications, and contract documents necessary for the execution of all project work.
  • Provide guidance to the Assistant Vice President on financial matters, organizational structure, policies, and procedures pertaining to the projects division.

Required Qualifications

  • A University Degree in Engineering or Architecture, complemented by a minimum of ten years of experience in facilities management, showcasing progressively responsible organizational and supervisory roles across various related domains (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in managing construction projects.
  • Supervisory experience within a unionized environment.
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and meet project deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification
  • CEFP Certification
