Lead Application Engineer for Design Systems

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Lead Application Engineer specializing in Design Systems to serve as a pivotal link between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center. This role is essential for overseeing the interactions and interfaces among various components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the hardware system for the EDM gearbox, ensuring integration and system balancing of all components.
  • Collaborate closely with individual Design Release Engineers and Centers of Excellence (COEs).
  • Engage with manufacturing teams and suppliers to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Coordinate with the Development Validation Center.
  • Schedule and conduct hardware system design reviews across the Product Release Center, reviewing Design Release Engineer proposals as necessary.
  • Organize assessments with the Virtual Analysis and CAE teams, ensuring the completion of the Virtual Design Validation Plan and Scorecard prior to any prototype hardware orders.
  • Manage the Driveline System and oversee DFMEA and DRBFM reviews to promote transparency and cohesive design controls leading to robust DVP actions.
  • Support the Chief Engineer and ACE in developing cost roll-ups for new programs.
  • Review and authorize all change notices, ensuring that checklists and engineering best practices are updated accordingly.
  • Lead initiatives for Technical Cost Reductions and Value Optimization, collaborating closely with relevant teams.
  • Represent the Chief Engineering team in maintaining the 'lessons learned' documentation for the program, ensuring timely updates to Technical Specialists.
  • Regularly review the validation completion status of driveline systems with the Development Validation Center team and provide updates to the Chief Engineer.
  • Coordinate the Design Review Board Technical Review and manage follow-up items, making decisions on issuing GIMS for problem areas.
  • Lead cross-functional task force teams focused on Continuous Quality Improvement and GIMS, working closely with ACE to establish priorities and track progress.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of EDM gearboxes, drivelines, axles, or transmission systems and their interface requirements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Self-driven with excellent organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, or electrified driveline systems.
  • Proven experience in gearbox, driveline, or axle design release responsibilities.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent).
  • Experience in supervising or leading small teams.
  • Familiarity with powertrain duty cycle analysis.
  • Ability to manage complex parts and systems.
  • Knowledge of powertrain product development processes.
  • Experience with Functional Block Diagrams, DFMEA, and Design Validation Plans.
  • Certification in Shainin or DFSS is desirable.
  • Experience with electric motors in automotive applications.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects to successful completion.
  • System-level thinking to understand interdependencies among powertrain components.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent).
  • Relevant engineering experience.
