Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Design Systems - Application Engineer to serve as the primary liaison between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center. This role is crucial for overseeing the interactions and interfaces among various components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the EDM Gearbox hardware system, ensuring the integration and balancing of all components.
- Collaborate closely with individual Design Release Engineers and Centers of Excellence (COEs).
- Engage with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure seamless operations.
- Coordinate hardware system design reviews across the Product Release Center and evaluate design proposals from Design Release Engineers as necessary.
- Organize reviews with the Virtual Analysis / CAE team, ensuring that the Virtual Design Validation Plan and Scorecard are completed prior to any prototype hardware orders.
- Manage the Driveline System and facilitate Interface DFMEA / DRBFM reviews to maintain transparency and develop effective Design Controls leading to robust DVP actions.
- Support the Chief Engineer and ACE in developing FTE and ER&D/ED&D cost roll-ups for various programs.
- Review and authorize all change notices, ensuring that checklists, lessons learned, and engineering best practices are updated and aligned.
- Lead Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) and Value Optimization (VO) initiatives, collaborating closely with PRC, DVC, and VO teams.
- Represent the Chief Engineering team in managing the 'lessons learned' documentation for the program, ensuring timely updates for Technical Specialists.
- Regularly review the 'Validation Completion' status of the driveline system and relevant components with the DVC team, providing updates to the Chief Engineer.
- Coordinate DRBTR reviews and manage follow-up items, making decisions on issuing GIMS for problem areas.
- Oversee CQI and GIMS cross-functional task force teams, working closely with ACE to establish priorities, action plans, and track progress.
Required Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of EDM Gearboxes, Drivelines, Axles, or Transmission Systems and their interface requirements.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
- Strong leadership capabilities and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage time-sensitive tasks effectively.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Several years of engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, or electrified driveline systems.
- Experience with Gearbox, Driveline, or Axle Design Release responsibilities.
- Master’s degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
- Leadership experience in managing small teams.
- Familiarity with powertrain duty cycle analysis.
- Proven ability to handle complex parts/systems.
- Knowledge of powertrain product development processes.
- Proficiency in Functional Block Diagrams, DFMEA, and DVP&R methodologies.
- Certification as a Green/Black Belt in Shainin or DFSS is desirable.
- Experience with electric motors in automotive applications.
- Demonstrated capability to manage multiple concurrent projects successfully.
- System-level thinking to understand interdependencies among powertrain components.
- Strong presentation skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
- Relevant engineering experience.
