Job Overview:

As a Lead Application Engineer specializing in Design Systems, you will serve as the primary liaison between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center. Your main focus will be on overseeing the interactions and interfaces among various components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the hardware system of the EDM gearbox, ensuring the integration and balancing of all components.
  • Collaborate with individual Design Release Engineers and Centers of Excellence (COEs).
  • Engage with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure project alignment.
  • Coordinate with the Development Validation Center.
  • Schedule and conduct hardware system design reviews across the Product Release Center, evaluating Design Release Engineer proposals as necessary.
  • Organize reviews with the Virtual Analysis and CAE teams, ensuring completion of the Virtual Design Validation Plan and Scorecard prior to prototype hardware orders.
  • Manage the Driveline System and Interface DFMEA/DRBFM team reviews to maintain transparency and develop cohesive Design Controls leading to robust Design Validation Plan actions.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer and Advanced Cost Engineering teams in developing cost roll-ups for new programs.
  • Review and authorize all change notices, ensuring that checklists and engineering best practices are updated accordingly.
  • Lead initiatives for Technical Cost Reductions and Value Optimization, collaborating closely with the Product Release Center and other teams.
  • Represent the Chief Engineering team in managing the lessons learned documentation for the program, ensuring timely updates for Technical Specialists.
  • Regularly review the validation completion status of driveline systems and components with the Development Validation Center team.
  • Coordinate the Design Review Board Technical Review and manage follow-up items, making decisions on issuing GIMS for problem areas.
  • Lead cross-functional task force teams for Continuous Quality Improvement and GIMS, working with Advanced Cost Engineering to create priorities and track progress.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of EDM Gearboxes, Drivelines, Axles, or Transmission Systems and their interface requirements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership abilities and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage time-sensitive tasks effectively.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments.

Preferred Experience:

  • Several years of engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, or electrified driveline systems.
  • Experience with Gearbox, Driveline, or Axle Design Release responsibilities.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent.
  • Experience in supervising or leading small teams.
  • Familiarity with powertrain duty cycle analysis.
  • Ability to manage complex parts and systems.
  • Knowledge of powertrain product development processes.
  • Proficiency in Functional Block Diagrams, Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R).
  • Green or black belt certification in Shainin or DFSS is desirable.
  • Experience with electric motors in automotive applications.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects to successful completion.
  • System-level thinking to understand interdependencies among powertrain components and systems.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent.
  • Relevant engineering experience.
