Role Overview:

As a key member of the Compensation team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, you will serve as a vital business partner in aligning with WestJet's compensation philosophy and total rewards strategy. Collaborating closely with People Relations, senior leadership, recruiters, and People Services, your role will encompass the design, development, execution, education, and communication of WestJet's compensation initiatives. You will be instrumental in establishing essential compensation frameworks and processes, acting as the primary authority on compensation matters for your designated client groups. This position is intended for a senior-level individual contributor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of the Federal Pay Equity Act within the organization, overseeing project timelines, plans, and budgets to ensure successful compliance and completion.
  • Serve as the go-to compensation expert for your client groups, managing the design and administration of base pay and incentive programs.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, and analyses to evaluate options and provide informed recommendations to senior management and the executive team.
  • Create engaging communication materials and conduct informative sessions for leaders to ensure a thorough understanding of the organization's total compensation philosophy and practices.
  • Establish yourself as a market expert by building and maintaining an external network to stay updated on compensation trends and best practices, particularly within the North American airline sector.
  • Support the analysis, implementation, communication, and administration of all compensation programs and policies for other client groups.
  • Continuously assess and enhance compensation-related processes to ensure consistent interpretation and administration of compensation programs.
  • Stay informed on legislative requirements impacting compensation policies and devise action plans to ensure compliance.
  • Engage in project work that may involve the development or redesign of compensation programs to support organizational growth or governance needs.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Human Resources, Finance, or Commerce.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in consulting or business partnering on compensation programs within a large, complex organization, with experience in both private and public sectors preferred.
  • Familiarity with labor negotiations and the implementation of associated collective agreements from a total rewards perspective.
  • Experience in managing long-term savings programs, including Group RRSPs and Pensions.
  • Proven ability to cultivate collaborative relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated expertise in program administration, communication, and implementation of compensation structures.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a history of conducting complex data analysis and translating it into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Well-developed communication skills, coupled with tact and diplomacy for handling sensitive issues.
  • Exceptional professional judgment and acumen.
  • A dedicated team player who is highly organized, proactive, and capable of working independently.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Holding or pursuing a CCP designation is considered an asset.
