Calgary, Alberta, Canada WestJet Full time
Why WestJet:

Every WestJet journey has the potential to enrich lives; a career with us is no exception.

WestJet arrived on the Canadian airline scene in 1996 and changed the industry for the better. We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now we're going global.

Join us and love where you're going.

Remote Work:

This is a hybrid remote work position that requires collaboration at our main campus three days per week. This provides flexibility for the remaining 40% of the work week, allowing for essential learning, collaboration, and networking with colleagues. Specific in-office days will be agreed upon by the team.

Overview of Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Compensation, you will deliver effective management of compensation programs in alignment with WestJet's business objectives. As a collaborative partner to People Relations, senior leaders, recruiters, and People Services, you will oversee the administration, execution, and communication of executive compensation initiatives. You will serve as a vital link between WestJet's leadership and our corporate partners and legal advisors. As the primary steward of senior leader and executive compensation programs, you will lead the design and strategy, conduct market analysis and benchmarking, support the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, manage incentive plans, and ensure compliance and governance in all executive compensation matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the trusted compensation expert for the Global Leadership Team (GLT) and manage the evolving base, variable, and long-term pay and incentive programs.
  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure cohesive and integrated compensation strategies.
  • Develop and implement executive compensation strategies that align with the company's business goals and market trends by preparing financial models, forecasts, and cost analyses to establish well-informed compensation recommendations for the executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the company's short- and long-term incentive programs, including the distribution of Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) grants and administration of the annual compensation cycle for the Short-Term Incentive Plan (STIP) and merit increases, ensuring alignment with business objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices, analyzing compensation survey data to recommend salary adjustments and compensation packages.
  • Provide monthly reporting updates and summaries of incentive accruals to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assess and continually improve compensation-related processes to ensure consistent interpretation and administration of compensation programs.
  • Lead projects to develop or redesign compensation programs in support of WestJet's growth initiatives.
  • Stay informed about legislative requirements impacting executive compensation policies and develop action plans to ensure compliance. Ensure that executive compensation programs adhere to all applicable legal and regulatory standards, including tax laws and corporate governance guidelines. Monitor and adapt to changes in laws and regulations to maintain compliant and effective compensation practices.
  • Establish yourself as a market expert by cultivating and maintaining an external network to stay informed about compensation trends and best practices within North America and the airline industry, with a particular emphasis on senior leadership and executive compensation.
  • Manage executive agreement templates to ensure feasibility and compliance with existing Total Rewards plans.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field (Human Resources, Finance, Commerce).
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in managing compensation programs for all levels within a large, multi-faceted organization. Experience with both privately held and publicly traded companies is preferred.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in program administration, communication, and implementation of executive compensation structures.
  • Experience in designing various short- and long-term incentive plans for senior leaders and board members.
  • Proven experience in preparing and managing management proxy circulars, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a track record of completing complex data analysis and transforming it into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment with great attention to detail.
  • Well-developed communication skills along with tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive matters.
  • Exceptional professional acumen.
  • A dedicated team player, highly organized, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Holding or working towards a CCP or CECP designation is an asset.

Benefits of Working at WestJet:

WestJet offers all employees a competitive total rewards package, including:

  • A fun and friendly culture with colleagues who collaborate to achieve success.
  • Travel privileges for you and your family, effective from your start date.
  • Flexible savings and benefit programs tailored to meet your specific needs.
