As a key partner to People Relations, senior leadership, recruitment teams, and People Services, you will assist in the design, development, execution, education, and communication of WestJet's compensation initiatives. Your contributions will be vital in establishing essential compensation frameworks and processes. As a primary owner of compensation programs, you will serve as the trusted advisor and authority on all compensation matters for your designated client groups (business units). Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the implementation of the Federal Pay Equity Act within the organization, including overseeing the project plan, timelines, and budget to ensure successful execution and compliance.
  • Act as the trusted compensation authority for your client groups and oversee the design and management of base pay and variable/incentive programs.
  • Prepare models, forecasts, cost analyses, and financial assessments to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations to senior leaders and the executive team.
  • Develop engaging communication materials and conduct information sessions for leaders, ensuring a thorough understanding of the organization's total compensation philosophy and practices.
  • Become the market expert by building and maintaining an external network to stay informed on compensation trends and best practices within the North American airline sector and beyond, with a focus on the airline industry.
  • Support the analysis, implementation, communication, and administration of all compensation programs and policies for other team member client groups.
  • Continuously assess and enhance compensation-related processes to ensure consistent interpretation and administration of compensation programs.
  • Stay updated on legislative requirements impacting compensation policies and develop action plans to ensure compliance (e.g., Pay Equity for federally regulated employers).
  • Participate in and lead project initiatives that may involve the development or redesign of compensation programs to support WestJet's growth objectives or meet governance standards.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Human Resources, Finance, or Commerce).
  • A minimum of five years of direct experience in consulting or business partnering on compensation programs within a large, multifaceted organization. Experience with both privately held and publicly traded companies, along with respective compensation elements, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with labor negotiations and the implementation of associated collective agreements from a total rewards perspective.
  • Experience in managing long-term savings vehicles, including Group RRSPs and Pensions.
  • Proven ability to cultivate collaborative working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in program administration, communication, and implementation of compensation frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a successful track record in conducting complex data analysis and translating it into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to thrive in a time-sensitive environment with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Well-developed communication skills, along with tact and diplomacy to address sensitive issues.
  • Exceptional professional judgment.
  • A dedicated team player, highly organized, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Holding or pursuing a CCP designation is considered an asset.

Benefits of Joining WestJet:

WestJet offers all employees a competitive total rewards package. Additionally, we provide:
