The Senior Application Operations Specialist is a hands-on developer tasked with the maintenance and support of Interac's extensive, high-performance payment infrastructure. You will identify and resolve infrastructure and application challenges to guarantee optimal performance and availability of our IT applications, while also providing root cause analysis along with improvement recommendations. In this role, you will collaborate with senior team members to gather monitoring requirements from stakeholders and deliver solutions utilizing the enterprise monitoring toolset, paving the way for the SRE-based next-generation Interac platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Comprehending large-scale Java applications, database architectures, application monitoring, and fault management. Engaging in Site (Application) Reliability Engineering activities, including proactive monitoring, responding to alerts, and automation. Troubleshooting applications using APM tools such as AppDynamics and Dynatrace. Providing application support and maintenance for Java/JEE applications. Adopting an SRE mindset to ensure application availability. Identifying application monitoring needs or performance issues and instrumenting them effectively in AppDynamics and Splunk. Designing and implementing AppDynamics monitoring and tuning (health rules, alerts) for various applications. Investigating and identifying root causes through logs on Linux servers. Facilitating integrations between AppDynamics, Splunk, PagerDuty, and ServiceNow. Recognizing automation opportunities for building self-remediation capabilities. Creating or updating performance analysis reports and dashboards, as well as knowledge bases. Proposing and executing solutions to enhance application availability and reliability. Working with API & Microservices technologies and containers. Leading investigation calls and being available for on-call support.Qualifications:
A University degree in Computer Science Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a Full-Time capacity. Proficiency in Core Java Object-Oriented programming and understanding basic Enterprise Integration Patterns. A minimum of 5+ years (preferably 8+) in software development (Java) and maintenance experience; ideally with exposure to payment systems or the banking domain, capable of testing and devising solutions. At least 3 years of experience in Application Support and maintenance of Java/JEE applications, focusing on enhancing application reliability through improved monitoring, dashboard design, and alert tuning, preferably with AppDynamics, Splunk, and ELK. Solid understanding of Linux, WebSphere, Firewalls, Load balancers, REST API, Docker, Kubernetes, and Cloud Architecture. RDBMS expertise - Oracle and/or DB2. Ability to write queries and generate reports on Database and Splunk. Understanding of Networking concepts and Network hardware. Experience in network troubleshooting and Infrastructure tuning. Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) with a focus on improving infrastructure and service reliability and stability. Debugging expertise in the Java tool stack and good knowledge of REST APIs. Proven experience in supporting high-throughput, low-latency systems and maintaining high-performance, service-oriented architectures. Familiarity with scripting tools such as Power Shell, BASH, Python, and Ansible. A solid understanding of various open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache, and data transformation (jaxb2, JSON, XML). Experience utilizing CI/CD platforms for deployment. A comprehensive understanding of ITIL service management processes. Participation in the overall delivery of software components as part of an agile development process. A mindset adaptable to modifying current approaches in response to new demands, open to new ideas and change initiatives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally across teams. A demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes when managing challenging situations and customers. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, follow through on projects to completion, and maintain organization while handling information from various sources simultaneously.
