The Senior Application Operations Specialist plays a crucial role as a hands-on developer, tasked with the maintenance and support of Interac's extensive, high-performance payment infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and resolving both infrastructure and application challenges to guarantee optimal performance and availability of our IT systems, along with conducting root cause analyses and proposing enhancements. In this capacity, you will collaborate with senior colleagues to gather monitoring requirements from stakeholders and implement solutions using our enterprise monitoring tools, setting the stage for the next-generation SRE-based Interac platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grasping the intricacies of large-scale Java applications, database frameworks, application monitoring, and fault management.
- Engaging in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) tasks, including proactive monitoring, alert responses, and automation.
- Utilizing APM tools such as AppDynamics and Dynatrace for application troubleshooting.
- Providing application support and maintenance for Java/JEE systems.
- Adopting an SRE approach to ensure application uptime.
- Identifying monitoring requirements or performance issues and instrumenting them effectively in AppDynamics and Splunk.
- Designing and implementing AppDynamics monitoring and tuning (health rules, alerts) for various applications.
- Investigating and determining root causes through log analysis on Linux servers.
- Facilitating integrations between AppDynamics, Splunk, PagerDuty, and ServiceNow.
- Recognizing automation opportunities for self-remediation.
- Developing or updating performance analysis reports, dashboards, and knowledge bases.
- Proposing and executing solutions to enhance application availability and reliability.
- Working with API & Microservices technologies and containerization.
- Leading investigation calls and being available for on-call support.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science Engineering or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
- Proficiency in Core Java Object-Oriented programming and a solid understanding of basic Enterprise Integration Patterns.
- A minimum of 5 years (preferably 8+) in software development (Java) and maintenance experience, ideally within the payment systems or banking sector.
- At least 3 years of experience in Application Support and maintenance of Java/JEE applications, with a focus on enhancing application reliability through improved monitoring, dashboard design, and alert tuning, preferably using AppDynamics, Splunk, and ELK.
- Strong knowledge of Linux, WebSphere, Firewalls, Load balancers, REST API, Docker, Kubernetes, and Cloud Architecture.
- Expertise in RDBMS, particularly Oracle and/or DB2.
- Ability to write queries and generate reports from databases and Splunk.
- Understanding of Networking concepts and Network hardware.
- Experience in network troubleshooting and infrastructure optimization.
- A robust SRE background with a focus on enhancing infrastructure and service reliability.
- Proficiency in debugging within the Java tool stack and a solid understanding of REST APIs.
- Proven experience in supporting high-throughput, low-latency systems and maintaining high-performance, service-oriented architectures.
- Familiarity with scripting tools such as PowerShell, BASH, Python, and Ansible.
- A comprehensive understanding of various open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache, and data transformation technologies (jaxb2, JSON, XML).
- Experience utilizing CI/CD platforms for deployment.
- A thorough understanding of ITIL service management processes.
- Participation in the overall delivery of software components as part of an agile development framework.
- A flexible mindset, open to adapting approaches in response to new demands and change initiatives.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective and professional interaction across teams.
- A proven ability to achieve successful outcomes in challenging situations and with demanding customers.
