POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Services department encompasses four (4) operating theaters and one (1) endoscopy suite, executing a diverse range of surgical interventions including General, Vascular, Orthopedic, Urology, Bladder, ENT, Ophthalmology, OB/GYN, and Maxillofacial procedures.

The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for delivering thorough nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing interventions within the Surgical Suite.

Upholding a high standard of professionalism, the ideal candidate will serve as an advocate, coordinator, and liaison for patients, identifying their needs and establishing priorities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal care during the intra-operative and immediate post-operative phases.


WORKING HOURS:
Availability for 7.5 and 11.25-hour shifts, including day, evening, night, weekend, and statutory holiday assignments, as well as other shifts as designated by the healthcare facility.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered Nurse, currently licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent education and experience enabling full scope nursing practice
A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in Medical-Surgical nursing is essential
Proven knowledge of perioperative patient care
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative healthcare team
Proficient in computer applications (Cerner, Electronic Patient Record systems such as Surginet, Outlook, PowerChart)
Consistent attendance record in accordance with the organization's Attendance at Work Policy

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain competencies to ensure they remain relevant and current on an ongoing basis
Engage in continuous learning to enhance skills and knowledge pertinent to patient health needs
Reflect on competencies in relation to societal and health environment changes to acquire and develop new skills continuously
The responsibility for educational support for competent nursing practice is shared among individual nurses, professional nursing organizations, employers, educational institutions, and governmental bodies, all working towards the common goal of delivering quality care.

Promote a culture of safety for both patients and staff, guided by the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Code of Conduct. Successful candidates must provide proof of having completed a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada, with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to employment.
