UNIT: Women's & Children's Care Program
STATUS: Temporary Regular Part Time
SALARY: $37.09 per hour
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Women's & Children's Care Program is a specialized area dedicated to delivering patient and family-centered care to expectant mothers, pediatric patients, well newborns, and those requiring additional care, in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
The Licensed Practical Nurse will operate within their full scope of practice, collaborating effectively with all members of the Women's and Children's healthcare team.
WORKING HOURS:
Availability for 11.25 and 7.5 hour shifts, on-call duties, and other assigned shifts by the hospital, covering a 24-hour rotation, 7 days a week.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, practicing at full scope.
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in maternal, newborn, or pediatric nursing within the last three (3) years.
- Certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
- Competence in independently providing care for Pediatric, Newborn, and Post-Partum patients.
- Strong understanding and commitment to Patient and Family Centered Care principles, with the ability to apply them in practice.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification.
- Proven problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to navigate conflicts respectfully.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a superior patient care experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the safety of patients and staff.
- Flexibility to adapt and thrive in a dynamic work environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through relevant training in obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics, and related coursework.
- Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Cerner, etc.).
- A performance record that aligns with the values of St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
- Demonstrated reliability in attendance in accordance with the hospital's Attendance at Work Program.
Important Note:
Successful candidates must provide proof of having received a complete primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada, with the final dose administered at least 14 days prior to commencing work.
