POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Lead Community Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting participants in Kinsight's Community Inclusion Programs. This position focuses on supporting and advocating for individuals as they seek to engage fully in community life through personalized planning. The Specialist is responsible for crafting diverse program experiences tailored to the goals and interests of participants. Additionally, this role involves assisting the Supervisor with participant support planning sessions and maintaining annual documentation, as well as coordinating staff and participant schedules, and providing training and guidance to Community Support Workers and Service Experience Workers.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, primarily from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with some flexibility for evening and weekend shifts. There may also be a requirement to work on statutory holidays.

WORK LOCATIONS:

  • Various communities including New Westminster and Port Coquitlam

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Human Services or equivalent education and experience
  • Training in program facilitation, life skills education, crisis intervention, behavior management, basic counseling, and conflict resolution is advantageous
  • Preferred experience of at least one year in a supervisory or team lead capacity
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, or mental health challenges
  • Familiarity with contemporary theories, principles, and practices in the field
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating the Person-Centered Planning Process
  • Knowledge of positive behavioral support techniques and skill-based training
  • Ability to assist individuals with personal care needs in a respectful and safe manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in computer use, including MS Office and information management software
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Knowledge of augmentative communication methods
  • Effective interaction skills with individuals and families
  • Maintenance of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check Clearance throughout employment
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle
  • Community Care First Aid/CPR, NVCI, and Food Safe certifications
  • Membership in the BCGEU union is required
