Field Service Technician for Heavy Equipment

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Field Service Technician specializing in heavy-duty equipment to support our Distribution Business.

The ideal candidate will possess a journeyman certification in heavy-duty mechanics along with relevant field service experience. This position is a hybrid role that encompasses on-site training in Power Generation, Marine applications, new project initiations, and diagnostics and repairs of Cummins engines. A Red Seal certification is essential, and the technician should be capable of conducting Commercial vehicle inspections.

Regular travel across the region is necessary, with all travel-related expenses, including meals and accommodations, covered in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will contribute in the following areas:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on generators or components at customer locations with minimal supervision.
  • Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring prompt attention to their needs.
  • Utilize specialized tools and adhere to documented procedures to diagnose and execute basic repairs, including the preparation of necessary parts and tools.
  • Refer unresolved issues to senior Field Service Technicians or Supervisors.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance activities according to established schedules and standards for power generation products in the field.
  • Complete necessary documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, and warranty claims, through handwritten forms or business system inputs.
  • Engage in training aligned with skill development and business requirements.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and proper functioning of service vehicles and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and regulations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • A minimum of intermediate workshop experience is required.
  • Experience with commercial vehicle inspections is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of power generation products is necessary.
  • Familiarity with High Voltage and Low Voltage systems is essential.

(Intermediate Level):

  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing generators, transfer switches, and auxiliary components.
  • Capable of starting up and repairing bypass transfer switches.
  • Mentor junior technicians by providing technical support and documentation.

(Advanced Level):

  • Setup, troubleshoot, and repair basic paralleling generator systems.
  • Understand switchgear schematics.
  • Ability to train Entry and Intermediate Technicians.
