Field Service Technician for Heavy Equipment

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Field Service Technician specializing in heavy-duty equipment to support our Distribution Business.

The ideal candidate will possess a journeyman technician certification with substantial field service experience. This position is a hybrid role that encompasses on-site training in Power Generation, Marine applications, and the initiation of new projects, alongside diagnostics and repairs of Cummins engines. A Red Seal certification is essential, and the technician should be qualified to conduct Commercial vehicle inspections.

Regular travel across the region is expected, with all necessary meals and accommodations provided, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will contribute in the following areas:

Execute preventative maintenance and basic repair tasks on generators or components at customer locations with minimal supervision. Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, ensuring their needs are met promptly and efficiently. Utilize specialized tools and adhere to documented procedures to diagnose and perform basic repairs, including the preparation of necessary parts and tools. Refer unresolved issues to more experienced Field Service Technicians or Supervisors. Conduct preventative maintenance activities according to established schedules and standards for power generation products in the field. Complete required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, and warranty claims, through handwritten forms or business system inputs. Participate in training aligned with skill and business requirements. Maintain service vehicles and tools in a clean and operational state. Ensure compliance with all relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

Intermediate level of experience in workshop-related tasks is required. Some experience with commercial inspections is preferred. Intermediate knowledge of power generation products is necessary. Experience with High Voltage and Low Voltage systems is advantageous.

(Intermediate):

Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing generators, transfer switches, and auxiliary components. Capable of starting up and repairing bypass transfer switches. Ability to mentor junior technicians by providing technical support and documentation.

(Advanced):

Competent in setting up, troubleshooting, and repairing basic paralleling generator systems. Understanding of switchgear schematics is required. Ability to train Entry and Intermediate Technicians.
