Position Overview

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist plays a vital role within the Primary Health Care team, reporting directly to the Health Services Lead. This position is integral to delivering advanced clinical expertise to patients associated with Collaborative Family Practices.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

  • Provide comprehensive nutritional assessments and personalized education to patients in both individual and group settings.
  • Act as a key resource for nutritional counseling, ensuring clients have access to the necessary interdisciplinary and community resources to achieve their health goals.
  • Engage in collaborative practices with a multi-disciplinary team to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Facilitate group sessions and workshops aimed at promoting health and wellness.
  • Utilize reliable transportation for travel to various locations as required.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Food and Nutrition.
  • Completion of a dietetic internship.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association.
  • Preferred certification as a Diabetes Educator.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based nutritional practices, particularly in chronic disease prevention and management.
  • A strong foundation in health promotion and population health principles.
  • Experience or willingness to learn group facilitation and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records is advantageous.
  • Competence in electronic communication and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Work Schedule

This is a permanent full-time role, requiring 75 hours bi-weekly. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, as shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is competitive, and successful candidates may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
