Position Overview

The Dietitian plays a crucial role within the Primary Health Care team, reporting directly to the Health Services Lead. This position involves collaboration with a diverse group of healthcare professionals to deliver advanced clinical expertise and nutritional support to patients in the Collaborative Family Practices.

Key Responsibilities

The Dietitian is responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments and providing tailored education and counseling in both individual and group formats.
  • Utilizing interdisciplinary and community resources to assist clients in achieving their health goals.
  • Engaging in travel as necessary, requiring reliable transportation.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Food and Nutrition.
  • Completion of a dietetic internship.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association (NSDA).
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of current, evidence-based nutritional practices, particularly in chronic disease management.
  • An understanding of health promotion and population health principles.
  • Experience or willingness to develop skills in group facilitation and motivational interviewing.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access and Word.
Work Schedule

This is a permanent full-time role, requiring 75 hours of work bi-weekly. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, as shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $43.42. Successful candidates may also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, along with a defined benefit pension plan.
