Unit Overview

Ambulatory Care at Hamilton Health Sciences encompasses a diverse range of medical and surgical clinics. These clinics are managed by the Cardiac & Vascular Program and include various specialties such as Cardiac Ambulatory Clinics, General Internal Medicine, Medicine Sub-Specialties, Ear Nose and Throat, General Surgery, and Surgery Sub-Specialties. The Cardiac Ambulatory Clinic consists of multiple specialized clinics, including the Comprehensive Cardiology Clinic, Heart Function Clinic, Cardiac Device Clinic, Cardiac Arrhythmia Clinic, Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation, Cardiac Surgery, and Structural Heart and Valve Clinic.

Position Overview

The Booking Clerk is responsible for providing clerical and administrative assistance to patients, families, and healthcare providers. This role primarily supports the Cardiometabolic Center of Excellence. Key responsibilities include:

  • Patient registration and scheduling
  • Database management and entry
  • Coordinating communication both internally and externally
  • Facilitating and supporting ambulatory clinic services
  • Performing various clerical tasks as required

Proficiency in various computer applications is essential, including but not limited to EPIC and Meditech (CWS, ORM, MiReq). The Booking Clerk will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team comprising nursing staff, allied health professionals, physicians, and learners.

Work Schedule

This position requires flexibility, with shifts covering days, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  2. Graduation from a community college secretarial or office administration program, or equivalent experience
  3. Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2, subject to testing
  4. Keyboarding skills of 40 wpm, subject to testing
  5. Ability to utilize Meditech software/modules (i.e., Community Wide Scheduling, Patient Care Inquiry, ORM, and Order Entry) is required and subject to testing
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook) is required and subject to testing
  7. Demonstrated effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team
  8. Ability to maintain prolonged periods of sitting, along with repetitive reaching and bending
  9. Commitment to a safe work environment and adherence to safety regulations
  10. Alignment with Hamilton Health Sciences' mission, vision, and values
  11. Understanding of privacy and confidentiality policies
