Environmental Services Director

Position Overview: This full-time role is focused on overseeing the Environmental and HazMat Services within the NYC Department of Design and Construction. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and managing the operational aspects of the Environmental and HazMat Units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all activities related to Environmental and HazMat Units to ensure timely deliverables.
- Provide strategic guidance to Deputy Directors and Section Chiefs.
- Administer and optimize professional services contracts.
- Prepare and manage capital and expense budgets.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor key performance indicators and conduct performance evaluations.
- Ensure staff maintains necessary training and licensure.
- Prepare regular project status reports for the Environmental and HazMat Units.
- Represent the division at inter-agency meetings and citywide environmental incidents.
- Deliver presentations and provide technical assistance to external agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a minimum of six years of full-time experience in construction management on capital projects, with at least eighteen months in a managerial or consultative role. A combination of education and experience totaling ten years is required, including:
- Experience in construction inspection on capital projects.
- Experience as a journeyperson in skilled building construction trades.
- Education leading to a bachelor's degree in relevant fields.
- A valid professional engineer or architect license may substitute for some experience requirements.
License Requirements: A valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York is required.
Preferred Skills: Candidates should have extensive experience in environmental investigations, safety, and hazardous materials management. Familiarity with city construction standards and regulations is advantageous. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
