Director of Administration

The Director of Administration is a senior leadership role within the School of Nursing at McMaster University. The successful candidate will provide operational management of the School, supporting its mandate in education, research, and clinical activities.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Management
The Director will oversee the financial management of the School, including budget development, financial planning, and fiscal accountability.
Strategic PlanningThe Director will play a key role in advising the Vice Dean on strategic planning, including the development of business plans, financial policies, and procedures.
Operational ManagementThe Director will ensure the effective and efficient management of the School, including faculty and staff recruitment, promotion, human resource, financial, research, and teaching activities.
Inter-institutional ManagementThe Director will manage programs and establish relationships that cross institutional boundaries, including partnership agreements with universities and colleges locally and internationally.
Human Resource ManagementThe Director will manage a diverse group of personnel, including unionized, non-unionized, administrative support staff, and research staff.
Physical Resource ManagementThe Director will play a key role in the area of physical resource management, including space utilization, fixed asset and space inventory, and office facilities.
Education Administrative SupportThe Director will provide oversight for the non-academic administrative leaders within the School, supporting the advancement of the education mission.
Research Administrative SupportThe Director will oversee the administrative support of research activity within the School, including proposal development, liaison with external funding agencies, and research project budgets.
MarketingThe Director will conduct environmental scans, develop marketing plans, and enhance the School's brand through communication vehicles.
Information TechnologyThe Director will oversee the information technology activities within the School, including technology plans, process design, and efficiency improvements.
Requirements- Education
A university degree at the Master's level in a related field, with appropriate experience. An MBA and/or Health Professional degree would be an asset.
Experience5 to 10 years of managerial experience in an academic health sciences centre and/or health care organization. University administration experience preferred.
Knowledge/SkillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, building partnerships and relationship skills, and a participative management style.
