Your Opportunity:

The Step Up Step Down (SUSD) program offers a voluntary mental health and addiction treatment service tailored for youth. This program includes both a residential component and an intensive outpatient service (IOP). We are excited to invite a dedicated Family Counsellor to our innovative team. In this role, you will serve as the primary clinician delivering therapeutic interventions to families participating in our inpatient and outpatient programs. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team at the pioneering Center for Excellence, you will collaborate with various agencies to provide exceptional care to children, youth, and families through a trauma-informed approach.

The Family Counsellor will be responsible for offering family therapy services and ongoing support to a diverse caseload of families dealing with moderate to severe mental health challenges. You will play a vital role in supporting all initiatives under the Red Deer Child, Youth and Families Addiction and Mental Health Program, including acute stabilization and outpatient services. This position also comes with a unique Recruitment Incentive, which may provide funding opportunities for your service agreement. Please note that some evening work may be necessary to accommodate program needs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Family Counsellor, your duties will include:

  • Conducting assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for clients and their families.
  • Providing clinical consultations with other programs and community resources.
  • Acting as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health initiatives within the community.
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers and community services to ensure a seamless continuum of care.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Psychology.
  • Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) with training in mental health assessment and psychotherapy.
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with relevant mental health training.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy.

Additionally, candidates must be actively registered or eligible for registration with the appropriate regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Applicants should also have:

  • A master's degree in a relevant field, including marriage and family therapy or clinical specialization.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families facing complex challenges.
  • The ability to adapt to the evolving needs of programs and clients.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and the development of clinical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of five years of post-graduate experience working with children, youth, and families with complex needs is preferred.
