Opportunity Overview:

As an Entry-Level Occupational Therapist in the Inpatient Acute Care setting, you will engage in effective communication and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal care for your clients. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments and implementing interventions, as well as contributing to safe discharge planning for a varied client demographic. You will receive guidance from the Allied Health Area Manager and the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Lead within a robust interdisciplinary team framework. Additionally, you will offer clinical oversight to Therapy Assistants and may occasionally have the chance to mentor Occupational Therapy or Therapy Assistant students.

Role Description:

In your capacity as an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will deliver evidence-based services focused on enhancing occupational performance tailored to the needs of individuals, groups, or communities. Your role may encompass serving as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate, positioning you as a vital member of the healthcare team. You will actively engage with individuals, groups, and communities to facilitate meaningful and preferred occupations, including self-care, productivity, and leisure activities. Your goal will be to assist clients in achieving their highest functional abilities and independence, taking into account their cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and physical strengths and challenges.

As an OT, your comprehensive services will include triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders within the client's physical, institutional, cultural, and social contexts. You will involve clients and their families as essential members of the healthcare team, promoting their active participation in all care aspects. Collaboration with clients and families will be key in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation strategies.

You will also engage in various interprofessional teams to foster awareness, enhance support, and participate in quality improvement initiatives by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance client services. Your contributions will extend to quality improvement efforts and professional community engagement, including peer mentoring and supervising students. Furthermore, you may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program is essential. Registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) is also required.
