Position Overview

The Mechanical Estimator plays a crucial role in generating precise estimates based on conceptual documents, as well as schematic, design development, and construction documents. Collaborating within a team environment, the mechanical estimator also offers technical and administrative support to project operations, focusing on mechanical estimating, reporting, monitoring progress, planning, scheduling, and managing project changes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical estimates of anticipated costs for materials, labor, and equipment for construction projects derived from contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  • Oversee and sustain the mechanical tendering process, establishing cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate mechanical pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, engineers, designers, and architects.
  • Engage in mechanical site assessments, tender evaluations, tender hand-off meetings, project closure, and operational meetings with project managers as necessary.
  • Compile and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Assist in mechanical material and equipment procurement for secured projects as required.
  • Manage various small mechanical projects.

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Proven experience in project estimating within the Saskatchewan commercial and industrial sectors.
  • Completion of a college program in mechanical engineering or several years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical construction field.
  • Prior experience as a supervisor and/or superintendent is advantageous.
  • Intermediate proficiency with estimating software; Accubid experience is essential.
  • Competence in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and JDEdwards.
  • Thorough understanding of estimating, forecasting, and scheduling to provide strategic and financial information to clients and management.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills; ability to adapt priorities and flexibility with working hours.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment with a commitment to project excellence.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
