Job Title: Mechanical/Piping Estimator
Job Summary: Spirit Employment & Training Edmonton is seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to take charge of the meticulous preparation of comprehensive estimates for industrial projects. This role encompasses the responsibility for evaluating significant projects and playing a vital role in promoting the company and its offerings.
Reports To: Senior Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities:- Developing mechanical estimates for substantial projects based on initial designs, specifications, and other pertinent information; generating precise cost estimates of resources necessary for tendered projects; liaising with suppliers and trades to obtain quotations; and creating detailed spreadsheets with supplier data and quotes.
- Drafting and preparing proposals, quotes, and bid forms or submissions as required.
- Defining project boundaries for the scope of work between self-performed tasks and subcontracted work.
- Reviewing tender documents and contractual obligations for projects.
- Evaluating quotes from subcontractors to determine the most advantageous options.
- Assessing drawings and specifications while devising innovative solutions to intricate construction challenges.
- Fostering relationships with internal and external clients, vendors, and suppliers.
- Ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards for each project.
- Facilitating the transition and supporting successful bids to the project/construction team.
- Providing coverage for Project Coordinator or other roles as necessary.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Senior Operations Manager.
- 3-10 years of experience as an estimator for construction projects.
- 3-10 years of hands-on experience with industrial mechanical construction projects or general construction.
- Relevant degree (P Eng, EIT, Mech Tech) or journeyman certification.
- Nuclear experience is an asset.
- Experience with proposal or technical writing is beneficial.
- Knowledge of code requirements is ideal.
- A positive, self-motivated, and driven individual with a collaborative attitude.
- A self-starter who strives to meet or exceed deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with estimating methods, software, and data analysis.
- Experience with construction schedules, Microsoft Project, or P6 Primavera.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills for preparing estimates and analyzing cost reports.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Previous industrial site and project experience is considered a strong asset.
- Effective verbal and listening skills, along with strong time management abilities.
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment, with some travel to project sites required.
- Hybrid work options may be available.
