About the Role

Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team. As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a critical role in providing detailed estimates for construction projects, working closely with project operations to ensure technical and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating and Cost Management
    • Prepare detailed estimates for construction projects based on conceptual documents, schematic drawings, and specifications.
    • Estimate and maintain the mechanical tendering process, setting up cost monitoring, reporting systems, and procedures.
  • Project Coordination
    • Coordinate mechanical price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, engineers, designers, and architects.
    • Participate in mechanical site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-off meetings, project closing, and operational meetings with project managers.
  • Supplier and Contractor Management
    • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
    • Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Material and Equipment Purchasing
    • Participate in mechanical material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  • Project Support
    • Coordinate various small mechanical projects.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Demonstrated track record of project estimating in the commercial and industrial markets.
    • Completion of a college program in mechanical engineering or several years of experience as a qualified trade person in the mechanical construction trade.
    • Previous experience as a supervisor and/or superintendent beneficial.
  • Skills and Competencies
    • Intermediate level experience with estimating programs; Accubid experience essential.
    • Competency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and JDEdwards.
    • Comprehensive understanding of estimating, forecasting, and scheduling to provide strategic and fiscal information to clients and management.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to shift priorities and flexibility with working hours.
    • Ability to work in a team environment with commitment to project excellence.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Available to travel.
