About the Role

The National Research Council Canada is seeking a highly skilled Senior Communications Advisor to join our Strategic and Corporate Communications team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing strategic communications advice to senior management on complex issues, developing and implementing communications plans, and managing sensitive or complex communications projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications advice to senior management on complex issues, including crisis communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and implement communications plans to achieve business objectives, including media relations, social media, and internal communications.
  • Manage sensitive or complex communications projects, including research, writing, and editing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement communications strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor junior communications staff to develop their skills and expertise.

Requirements

  • University degree in a communications-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience providing strategic communications advice to senior management, including crisis communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications plans, including media relations, social media, and internal communications.
  • Experience managing sensitive or complex communications projects, including research, writing, and editing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, including presentations and public speaking.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.

Assets

  • Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring junior communications staff.
  • Experience working in a government or public sector environment.

Language Requirements

Bilingual Imperative (English and French).

Assessment Criteria

  • Technical Competencies: knowledge of the Government of Canada's Policy on Communications and Federal Identity, and the Directive on the Management of Communications.
  • Behavioural Competencies: Supervisor - Valuing people, Teamwork, Client focus, Communication, Self-knowing and self-development.

Compensation

$99,759 to $106,945 per annum, plus bilingualism bonus.
